
The SCAR Visiting Scholar Fellowship and Award 2026 is a short-term international research programme designed to support collaboration in Antarctic research.
It is run by SCAR (Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research) and focuses on strengthening global scientific capacity, especially in institutions involved in Antarctic and Southern Ocean studies.
The programme allows researchers to visit a host institution in another SCAR member country to participate in training, mentoring, and collaborative research.

Applicants must:
Be scientists or academics (usually 5+ years post-PhD)
Work in research related to SCAR scientific areas
Secure a host institution in a SCAR member country
Ensure the host country is different from their current country
Have support from both home and host institutions
Submit a strong capacity-building research proposal
Short-term visits lasting 1 to 4 weeks
