
The fellowship is run by the National Sea Grant College Program. It places students in executive or legislative offices in Washington, D.C., where they help with policy-making and public service work.
Fellows act as:
Researchers
Policy assistants
Scientific advisors
They may write reports, prepare briefings, and support government projects.
1 year (12 months)
Typically runs from 2027 to 2028
Washington, D.C., United States (in-person placement required)
Salary: about $74,700
Additional funding: about $5,000 for relocation and professional development
Applicants must:
Be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or dual national
Be enrolled in a graduate program in the U.S.
Have interest in marine, coastal, or environmental policy
During the fellowship, participants may:
Work in government offices
Help draft policies or legislation
Conduct research and prepare reports
Attend meetings and support decision-making processes
