UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) ·Posted March 12, 2026The UNESCO Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education 2026 celebrates innovative initiatives that significantly advance education opportunities for girls and women around the world.
Established by UNESCO, the prize highlights programs and organizations that are driving transformative change through education and helping address global gender disparities in access to learning.
Despite global progress, 133 million girls remain out of school, and women account for nearly two-thirds of all adults unable to read worldwide. The prize seeks to support initiatives that address these gaps by promoting inclusive, equitable, and high-quality education systems.
Each year, two laureates are selected and awarded $50,000 each in recognition of their impact and commitment to improving educational opportunities for girls and women.
Projects considered for the award should demonstrate strong potential for impact, innovation, and sustainability, and contribute to building inclusive societies through education.
The winners will be announced by the Director-General of UNESCO, and the award ceremony will take place 9 October 2026 during International Day of the Girl celebrations.
